Cromarty Cottage is a 3-bedroom end terrace town cottage, built around 1870, on the outskirts of the small town of Aspatria, in Cumbria. The Cottage is named after the picturesque village at the northern tip of the Black Isle in Scotland, a place the owners love to visit! It is ideally situated for travel to all points of the compass in Cumbria and beyond. There are ample opportunities to explore whether you prefer walking, horse riding, motorcycling or just visiting the area.
About four miles to the west is the sweeping Solway Firth coast with its beautiful beaches, magnificent views to Southern Scotland and the old Victorian seaside town of Silloth. You don't need to travel too far to find the World National Heritage site at the start of Hadrians Wall and various nature reserves.
Four miles to the east lies the start of the Lake District National Park, and the more northerly mountain ranges of Skiddaw, Blencathra and the quieter Caldbeck fells. These rise majestically on the horizon and can be clearly seen from the village high street. The nearest town is Cockermouth (the home of Wordsworth) only 10 minutes drive and popular Keswick, in the heart of the Northern Lakes, is only 25 minutes drive away.
Heading north, a short train journey from Aspatria, is Carlisle and it's imposing Castle and beyond to the Scottish Border country. To the south-west, for the long-distance walker or road tourer, you will find the the Cumbrian Way and the West Cumbrian Tourist route. This is also the gateway to the more remote Ennerdale and Western Fells.
The cottage backs onto the West Coast branch line railway from Carlisle for the towns of Maryport, (famous for its liner museum and aquarium), Workington, Whitehaven (with it's re-developed harbourside and marina) and Ravenglass (where you can change for the steam railway into Eskdale). This is not a busy line and runs the small commuter trains, which saves using the car or motorbike if you fancy a change, and very useful for travelling into Carlisle.
Car parking is on the road at the front of the property, in clearly marked parking bays. There is also off-road parking for up to 4 motorcycles with overhead cover partly afforded by the front archway. Aspatria itself has a good range of local shops, two small supermarkets, banks and cash points, pubs (including one run by the locally renowned Jennings breweries - whose brewery is based in nearby Cockermouth with facilities for visitors). The town also has a petrol station and good rail and bus services. Nearby there are riding stables and plenty of quiet country lanes for cycling on.

The cottage has 3 bedrooms: one king-size double, one twin and one single, and there is a bathroom with bath with mixer shower taps, wc and basin. The comfortable lounge has a TV, a video and a Hi-Fi system. There is a fully-fitted and equipped kitchen, complete with gas hob, oven, microwave, fridge and washing machine, which looks out onto the small courtyard area. This has views over the railway and fields at the rear of the property to the Galloway hills, across the Solway Firth. All bed linen, duvets and towels are included. Patio furniture is available for you to enjoy the weather, at the start or the end of your day.
